A medical examination is required on application for or at renewal of your licence for a hackney cab/private hire licence.

The medical only takes about 15 minutes and involves an eye test, completion of the council medical form and a blood pressure check.

YOUR MEDICAL DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFORMED BY YOUR OWN GP NOW PROVIDED YOU HAVE A SUMMARY OF YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS. THIS IS EASY TO DO AND IS EXPLAINED BELOW.

What to bring:

  • Medical form obtained from your local council which will be completed at the medical.

  • Photo ID (passport or driving licence)

  • If you wear glasses for distance vision (not reading) bring them with you. Contact lens users should wear their glasses for the medical

  • A summary of your GP records. This is easily obtained by phoning your surgery and asking for a patient summary, the last year's consultations and last 3 blood pressure readings (if you are on treatment for high blood pressure). Your records can also be downloaded if you register with your GP's online services (see link Getting started with GP online services). Please check with your local council as some ask for a complete copy of your medical records.

  • A list of any current medication with doses

  • Payment is by cash or cheque (made payable to "Catherine Colvin") for £55. Receipt supplied

Any queries about the medical and what to bring can be discussed when you book the appointment.
